Description
“Antor, Anator, et Anabis, Theodomas, Ianitor, by the deserts of the holy angels, I will put on the vesture of health, that I may bring to pass my desire, by thee (O holy Adonay), whose kingdom hath no end.”
Clavicula Salomonis (or “The Key of Solomon”) is the most famous and important of all Grimoires, or textbooks of Magic. According to the legend, King Solomon wrote the book and gave it to his son Rehoboam and commanded him to hide it in his tomb upon his death. After many years the book was discovered however none could interpret the text, until one wise sage prayed to the lord for understanding. An Angel of the Lord appeared to him and lifted a spell that that had keep the text hidden from the unworthy and the wicked, after which he was able to read it plainly. The sage then placed a spell on the book that the unworthy, the unwise or those who did not fear God would not attain the desired effect from any its workings.
The text explains how to summon and constrain ouranic spirits in order to compel them to do the operator’s will. It details the numerous requisite accessories to aid the practitioner and how to construct them. One such accessory is the Exterior Clothing (Les Habillemens extérieurs) meant to distinguish the practitioner during the rituals. A shirt must be marked with a specific set of characters and blessed with an incantation. Our shirt is inscribed with the exact characters (les signes) set forth in Wellcome 4669 Vol. I. 1 (Le Clavicule ou la Clef de Salomon). Let this shirt be thy vesture of health and all thy desires come to pass when thou wear it!
